Jim Caruso

Creative Producer

Technical Communications Sector

I consider it a privilege to work at Lincoln Laboratory and support our nation’s security. It is incredibly rewarding to be part of something much more than a job. The Lab has changed my perspective on how critical science and technology are to our nation. It makes me more proud to be an American and confident that we are doing our part to protect this great country.

There are many reasons why Lincoln Laboratory is an attractive place to work. I value the opportunity to work with both new and recurring customers every day. It’s exciting talking to talented scientists, engineers, and support staff, hearing their ideas, and helping them find the best ways to communicate concepts and visions.

As a Creative Producer, my job involves handling logistics, coordinating resources, and working closely with artists and editors to give the customer a visually stimulating, aesthetic, user-friendly product, whether that is a logo, email campaign, animation, poster, brochure, graphic user interface, or website.

I have worked on a wide range of interesting projects. I’ve been the graphics coordinator for several conferences, overseeing the design and development of the technical posters, signage, packets, and all supporting materials. Most recently, I was the creative lead for the MARTI (Missile Alternative Range Target Instrument) exhibit. (This interactive display is in the Director’s Office, where special guests can learn more about MARTI and its success.) It was a significant team effort to create something we had never done before. To me, this project represented how the Laboratory explores new things in teams for a larger purpose. The team combined individual talents and mixed technical and non-technical people and external vendors to illustrate a big achievement through various media. The entire project was a learning opportunity for me. MIT seems to appreciate the fact that we are valuable as one connected group and as individual entities. It is great being part of the diverse MIT community.

One big benefit to working at the Lab is the available facilities. I have played pretty much every sport offered on base including basketball, soccer, ultimate frisbee, volleyball, tennis, softball, and I even use the gym for cardio/weight training. Lots of things are going on at different times so I can participate after work or during lunch as time permits.

Every day I come to work I am thankful that I get to work here. Each person who works at the Lab plays an important role in its success. I love my job and have fun doing it, but I take my job very seriously. I know the way I perform and the decisions I make and the way I treat others can have long-lasting effects. I try to leave work each night knowing I worked with integrity and did the absolute best job I could. I hope when my time is done here that my contributions will positively impact the Lab, this country, and my colleagues.

I am Jim Caruso. I am Lincoln Laboratory.
