MIT's 150th Anniversary: The Next Century Convocation
Boston Convention and Exhibition Center
Sunday, April 10, 2011
2:00 pm (pre-Convocation exhibits begin at noon)
The centerpiece of the MIT150th anniversary celebration is a formal academic event on April 10, 2011. The convocation recalls the 1949 Mid-Century Convocation, at which MIT alumni, faculty, students, and guests from education, industry, and government gathered to discuss the post-War world situation, scientific progress, and the Institute's future. The convocation also commemorates the accomplishments of MIT faculty, researchers, staff, and students.
The theme of the convocation is the "habits of mind" fostered by MIT research and education: integrity, diligence, service, social responsibility, and creativity.
The entire MIT community is invited to take part in the convocation. At the convention center, Lincoln Laboratory's innovative technologies and prototype systems will be highlighted in a series of exhibits which will be open from noon until 2 p.m.
The convocation will run approximately two hours and will be followed by a community reception. Beginning at 8:00 a.m., MIT will be providing bus transportation to the convocation from Cambridge. The bus stops are on Audrey Street, Albany Street (opposite Ashdown House), and Hayward Street. Buses will loop continuously between Cambridge and the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center (BCEC). Valet parking and self-parking at the BCEC are available.
Attendees must register online for tickets to the convocation; there is no charge for tickets. Each person may request up to four tickets. To log into the ticket registration, you need your MIT certificate or Kerberos information.
