Lose2Win at Lincoln Laboratory!

Lose2Win is a free, 12-week, weight-loss and nutrition-education program that will run in conjunction with getfit@mit, beginning January 28, 2013. Every participant in Lose2Win must also be a member of a getfit team.

Participants in Lose2Win must be members of the Lincoln Laboratory Fitness Center. If you want to participate but are not a current Fitness Center member, you may purchase a 12-week trial membership (valid from 1/28/13–4/21/13) at a cost of $30. At the end of the trial period, the price of the trial membership may be applied toward the cost of a one-year gym membership.

When you are accepted into the program, you may choose to participate either as a member of a Lose2Win team or as an individual. (Note: Teams will be open to new participants first. If teams fill up, returning participants will have to participate as individuals.) Either way, you will be given nutrition information, will have the support of a personal trainer and wellness coach, and can choose to attend up to three free daily exercise classes at the Lincoln Laboratory Fitness Center. All participants will have the opportunity to join a field trip to a local fast-food restaurant for some hands-on practice in making healthy, low-calorie choices. An indoor/outdoor walking club will also be associated with the program.

As a participant in the program, you must weigh in weekly and can win up to four gift cards during the 12 weeks as you achieve various weight-loss milestones. At the end of the program, the individual and team with the highest percentages of weight loss will win grand prizes.

Who can participate?

Eligibility for the program will be based on waist-to-height ratio. To participate, women must have a waist-to-height ratio of 49 or higher, and men must have waist-to-height ratio of at least 53. We’ll be computing these measurements as part of a general health-screen event in Room AC120 on January 8 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. If you are unable to make it at that time, please send us an email to schedule another time for that screening.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, we invite you to fill out our online application form. Once your application is tentatively approved, you will be scheduled for an initial weigh-in and blood pressure check during the week of January 21. At that time, we'll also ask you to give us some additional health information to help us design a safe weight-loss plan that meets your needs.
