Dr. James W. Wade, Head of the MIT Lincoln Laboratory Safety and Mission Assurance Office, is responsible for enhancing the Laboratory’s system and component development capabilities in project hardware, software, integration, and quality. He has established a quality management system for the Laboratory’s larger programs that is compliant with the AS9100B industry standard. Additionally, he has begun efforts to improve the Laboratory’s software development and project management processes.

Dr. Wade provides the Laboratory with senior leadership and guidance regarding process and program quality initiatives and concerns, as well as serving as a point of contact on such issues for the mission assurance leaders from the Laboratory’s sponsors. He is a member of the Director’s Office Staff and the Laboratory’s Senior Management Council.

Prior to joining MIT Lincoln Laboratory in August 2006, Dr. Wade was with NASA for over 13 years. While at NASA, he was Manager for the International Space Station Safety and Mission Assurance/Program Risk Office. He holds a PhD degree in aerospace engineering sciences from the University of Boulder, an MS degree in aeronautical and astronautical engineering from the University of Illinois, an MBA and an MS degree in space science from the University of Houston, and a BA in physics from Gustavus Adolphus College.
