About
Small Business Office
The MIT Lincoln Laboratory Small Business Office web pages provide current information about resources available to small businesses seeking Lincoln Laboratory purchasing or subcontracting opportunities.
Lincoln Laboratory has an aggressive program designed to afford small business concerns, as defined by the U.S. Government*, the maximum opportunity to compete for purchase orders. Our job is to ensure that small business (SB), veteran-owned small business (VOSB), service-disabled veteran-owned small business (SDVOSB), HUBZone (HZ) small business, small disadvantaged business (SDB), and woman-owned small business (WOSB) concerns, as well as historically black colleges or universities or minority institutions (HBCU/MIs), are given the maximum possible opportunity to participate in Laboratory acquisitions.
The Department of Defense's (DoD's) Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) and the U.S. Small Businesses Agency (SBA) awarded Lincoln Laboratory's small business program an "Acceptable" rating in 2007. The Laboratory is one of the few organizations in New England to achieve this distinction.
*Note to those businesses used to doing business with the Department of Transportation (DOT) or state agencies:
Lincoln Laboratory is a DoD federally funded research and development center (FFRDC) and is 100% funded by the U.S. Air Force. Our small business program is under the cognizance of the DCMA and SBA. The Laboratory adheres to the SB definitions in the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) Part 19, not definitions of the federal DOT Disadvantaged Business Enterprise/Minority Business Enterprise program or definitions of any state or local agencies. Firms that are Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBEs) or Woman-Owned Business Enterprises (WBEs) and are certified by the DOT or state agencies such as the State Office of Minority Business Assistance (SOMBA) may not be qualified under FAR regulations. Please see the definitions for a set of brief descriptions.
