James Ward - Biography

Jim Ward BiographyDr. James Ward became Assistant Head of the Communication Systems Division in February 2013.

Prior to this position, Dr. Ward was Assistant Head of the Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance and Tactical Systems Division at MIT Lincoln Laboratory. His areas of technical expertise include signal processing for radar, sonar, and communications systems, adaptive array signal processing, detection and estimation theory, and systems analysis. He also served as Assistant Head of the Tactical Systems Technology Division.

Dr. Ward has given tutorials on space-time adaptive processing for radar at several IEEE radar and phased array conferences. He has been an organizer and regular lecturer at several Laboratory short courses on radar systems. He is a past recipient of the MIT Lincoln Laboratory Technical Excellence Award and in 2003 received the IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society Fred Nathanson Young Radar Engineer Award for contributions to adaptive radar and sonar signal processing.

Dr. Ward holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Dayton, and both MS and PhD degrees in electrical engineering from The Ohio State University. He is a Fellow of the IEEE.
