Carl Quillen received his AB degree from Harvard University in 1987, and a Ph.D. degree from Brown University in 1995. Dr. Quillen's graduate work was in the area of computational fluid mechanics. Following a further year of postdoctoral work at Brown University, he joined the Speech and Language department at Bolt Beranek and Newman (BBN) Corporation in 1996, where he concentrated on software efforts while gradually gaining competence in the area of Speech Recognition with the help of mentors like Herb Gish. A series of corporate mergers at BBN persuaded him to bid fairwell to his colleagues there in 2002, when he joined Lincoln Laboratory. At Lincoln Laboratory he continues to focus on developing and applying speech-recognition technology, while also working on Speaker-Identification and clustering techniques.
