Jeff Diewald is a technical staff member in the Cyber Systems and Technology Group at MIT Lincoln Laboratory. Jeff earned his B.S., cum laude, in electrical engineering, his B.S., cum laude, in computer engineering, and his M.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan in 1979, 1980, and 1981 respectively. Mr. Diewald worked for several notable companies including Digital Equipment Corporation, Compuware, and Avid Technology, among others. During that time, he worked developing and delivering compilers, debuggers (resulting in two US patents), software performance tools, and user interfaces for several significant products. Most recently, Mr. Diewald concentrated on building and shipping usable user interfaces for complex products and controls for embedded devices. He also worked with defining and implementing agile processes for practical development efforts.
Mr. Diewald joined MIT Lincoln Laboratory in June 2011, and has been working on development of software supporting usable cryptographic key management for small unmanned aerial systems. The effort by the entire team was awarded a Laboratory Team Award for 2011-2012. His most recent efforts are in helping to implement usable security and certification across a large set of diverse systems and applications.
