Dr. Jeffrey Friedhoffer is a senior staff member in the Cyber Systems and Technology Group at MIT Lincoln Laboratory. He is located in Columbia, Maryland. Dr. Friedhoffer joined MIT Lincoln Laboratory in 2004 after a 35-year career in the Department of Defense.
His first six years at the Laboratory were spent as an IPA (Intergovernmental Personnel Agreement) for DoD conducting research on networking related topics. Prior to joining Lincoln Laboratory, he conducted research on 3G wireless and VoIP.
From 1997-2000 he was the Technical Director of the Technology and Systems Directorate of a DoD agency where he was responsible for the overall technical direction of the directorate. His earlier work was in the application of Digital Signal Processing to HF communications, which included development of cognitive software defined radios well before these became popular research topics.
Dr. Friedhoffer received his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. all in electrical engineering at the University of Delaware. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE and has served as Section Chair of the Baltimore Section, and is currently Secretary of IEEE Region 2.
