Out Professional Employee Network (OPEN)

LL OPEN members at paradeThe Out Professional Employee Network (OPEN) provides a forum for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community at Lincoln Laboratory. OPEN strives to make Lincoln Laboratory an environment in which LGBT employees can thrive and feel comfortable. 

OPEN addresses the challenges faced by LGBT employees by

  • Fostering an inclusive environment for the LGBT and Allied community 
  • Developing educational programs, workshops, and materials for the Laboratory that address issues related to the LGBT community
  • Serving as a resource for prospective candidates, employees, and contractors
  • Supporting the recruitment, retention, and inclusion of LGBT professionals at the Laboratory


Activities and Events:
OPEN hosts a Brown Bag Lunch Series, inviting guest speakers to present on topics such as

  • LGBT Issues in the Workplace
  • Conversations on Coming Out
  • Challenging the Gender Binary
  • Helping LGBT families navigate workplace benefits programs
  • Security Clearance LGBT Q&A

Past events include

  • Pride-n-Pizza Party
  • Valentine’s Day Cookiegrams
  • Greater Boston AIDS Walk
  • Marching in Boston Pride

LL OPEN members win MIT Excellence Award
Winners of the 2014 John S.W. Kellett '47 Award

OPEN was presented with the John S.W. Kellett '47 Award in 2014. This award recognizes "exceptional commitment to creating a welcoming environment at MIT," and was established in 2001 in honor of MIT alumnus John S.W. Kellett, whose spirited support enabled significant improvements in the lives of MIT's lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community.

 OPEN is one of six employee resource groups at Lincoln Laboratory
