What do you do at the Laboratory?
I create a monthly newsletter for the Information Services Department (ISD) by interviewing experts, writing articles, and building newsletter webpages and emails. This newsletter exists to help ensure technology changes improve the Laboratory community’s lives, and to keep the community informed about newly available technology tools. From emerging generative artificial intelligence applications to routine (but necessary) computer updates, we cover it all. I assist with other ISD communication channels, too — such as the ISD website and service requests — with the goal of ensuring the Laboratory community can use their technology easily, every day.
What aspects of your work do you take the most pride in?
The people in ISD work tirelessly to bring the Laboratory great technology solutions, from specialized secure networks that enable classified research to mobile phones that keep us all connected, no matter where we’re working. It makes my day to help get these solutions in front of the Laboratory community in ways that bring the topics to life and demonstrate how the technology can make workdays easier.
Why do you think the Laboratory is a good fit for you?
I really enjoy learning new things and exploring unexpected topics, and the Laboratory's emphasis on offering ever-present educational opportunities — seminars, classes, conferences, and more — allows me to do just that. I also love working specifically in ISD because of the dedication, teamwork, and professional excellence I see in my team members day after day.
What are your interests outside of work?
I have so many hobbies. Hanging out with my four-year-old kiddo takes precedence right now. (Digging in the dirt and watching big trains go by have never been so exciting before!) Around the edges, I enjoy scuba diving, horseback riding, spending time with family, reading, singing, petting my dog, hiking, swimming, and skiing. And now we're getting into the season of life when my child's group activities will surely become new hobbies, too!
If you could meet anybody, who would it be and why?
I would like to meet J.R.R. Tolkien. He crafted stories, languages, and worlds that have lived on in people’s hearts long after his passing, inspiring many adventures. I think he would be fascinating.
