Dr. Melva T. James is a technical staff member in the Cyber Analytics and Decision Systems Group. She joined MIT Lincoln Laboratory in 2016, and her current projects are focused on evaluating predictive models of cyber security systems and developing new cyber security metrics. Her research interests include human-computer interaction, information visualization, scientific modeling and simulation, and the science of cyber security.

Dr. James earned her BS degree in chemistry in 2001 from the University of Mississippi. She earned her SM in chemistry from MIT in 2007 and her PhD in human-centered computing from Clemson University in 2015. Her dissertation work involved designing, building, and testing a mobile nutrition application crafted to support reflection on portion sizes. Dr. James’ graduate education was supported by a fellowship from the Adobe Foundation via the GEM Consortium.
