Aaron Phelps is an associate staff member in the Cyber System Assessments Group at MIT Lincoln Laboratory. Since joining the Laboratory in November 2014, he has led the software and embedded Linux development for the Lincoln Advanced Hardware Threat Emulator (LAHTE). He is also involved with field-programmable gate array design and low-level instrumentation and introspection. Mr. Phelps’s main focus areas include analysis of cyber-physical/tactical systems, wireless technology and software-defined radio, and vulnerability discovery in the Internet of Things.

Mr. Phelps was a summer intern at Lincoln Laboratory in 2012 and 2013. During those internships, he demonstrated proof-of-concept attacks on the ZigBee wireless protocol and the Automatic Dependent Surveillance–Broadcast (ADS-B) protocol for commercial/general aviation.

Mr. Phelps received BS and MS degrees in computer science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2014.
