Dr. Joseph R. Zipkin is a technical staff member in the Cyber Analytics and Decision Systems Group at MIT Lincoln Laboratory. His research applies techniques from systems analysis, scientific computing, and machine learning to problems in cyber security, situational awareness, and decision-making.

Before joining Lincoln Laboratory, Dr. Zipkin was a PhD student in the Department of Mathematics at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where his research was supported by a National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship from the Department of Defense and by a Vertical Integration of Research and Education (VIGRE) grant from the National Science Foundation. From 2007 to 2009, Dr. Zipkin worked as a quantitative strategist for Goldman Sachs, developing reinsurance risk models and advising clients on complex risk exposures during the most severe market disruptions in a generation.

Dr. Zipkin holds an AB degree from Princeton University, an MA degree from UCLA, and a PhD degree from UCLA, all in mathematics.
