Shawn M. Redmond

Dr. Shawn M. RedmondDr. Shawn M. Redmond is a technical staff member in the Chemical, Microsystem, and Nanoscale Technologies Group at Lincoln Laboratory, pursuing research in hyperspectral heterodyne detection, laser beam combination, and novel laser media. Previously, he was a research engineer at Lockheed Martin Aculight and Northrop Grumman Space Technology.

Most recently, Dr. Redmond led teams that demonstrated record-setting performance by coherently beam combining >200 semiconductors, as well as kW-class fiber amplifiers. In earlier work, he designed a beam-combinable 15-kW solid-state laser amplifier module that became the building block for a 100-kW solid-state laser system demonstration and developed the foundational designs for kW-class fiber lasers for spectral beam combination.

Dr. Redmond has authored and coauthored numerous papers and conference presentations in the fields of laser beam combination, high-power lasers, and rare-earth spectroscopy. Recently, he served on the advisory committee of the 2011 International Conference on Luminescence.

Dr. Redmond received a BS degree in engineering physics from Oregon State University and a PhD degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Michigan. As a graduate student, he conducted research in rare-earth spectroscopy and scattering.
