Lincoln Laboratory's Pamela Evans appointed chair of Air Force Scientific Advisory Board
Pamela Evans, an assistant head of the Space Systems and Technology Division at MIT Lincoln Laboratory, has been appointed chair of the Department of the Air Force Scientific Advisory Board (DAF SAB). Since 1944, the DAF SAB has provided independent scientific and technical advice to DAF leadership, reporting directly to the secretary of the Air Force.
Evans is one of 14 appointees recently announced by the DAF. Comprising technical leaders from across the nation, the SAB will conduct studies on topics critical to the DAF and recommend technology applications for improving Air Force and Space Force capabilities. They will also review components of the DAF's science and technology portfolio, informing future R&D priorities.
"Pam is exceptionally qualified to serve as the chair of the Department of the Air Force Scientific Advisory Board. She has decades of leadership experience and technical expertise in a broad range of national security domains that will benefit the DAF," says Melissa Choi, director of Lincoln Laboratory.
Evans' career at Lincoln Laboratory has spanned air and missile defense; intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance; global strike; air superiority; and national security space. She has extensive experience leading analysis activities focused on defining future systems and architectures for challenging DAF missions. She has also led efforts to develop new joint-service architecture concepts, providing recommendations for prioritizing the integration of Air Force, Space Force, Navy, and Army capabilities.
Evans previously served as a member of the DAF SAB from 2022 to 2025. She was the vice chair of a study examining future Air Force weapon capabilities and a panel member on studies assessing moving-target tracking systems, next-generation collaborative combat aircraft, and space command and control technologies.
