IEEE Boston Section Awards celebrate Laboratory staff contributions
In mid-March, scientists and engineers from around Greater Boston came together for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers’ (IEEE) 2025 Boston Section Awards that were held at the Joyce Cummings Center at Tufts University. The event honors and celebrates members of the IEEE Boston Section for their outstanding contributions to the fields of electrical and electronics engineering. Among the award recipients, several Laboratory staff members were honored.
Jeffrey Herd from the Advanced Technology Division received the 2025 IEEE Boston Section Conferences Award for his past work as chair of the IEEE Phased Array Systems and Technology Symposium and his continual support the conference as "advisor, cheerleader, and mover-and-shaker."
Dan Weidman from the Mission Assurance Office was recognized for his contributions to the Boston/Providence/New Hampshire Joint Reliability Chapter, which had the greatest number of technical meetings in 2024.
Eric Evans, a Fellow in the Director’s Office, received the 2024 IEEE Boston Section Distinguished Member Award "for continuous and dedicated support of the section’s historic milestones, its members and volunteers, and extraordinary effort in advancing the mission of the IEEE."
In addition, Roozbeh Jafari from the Biotechnology and Human Systems Division was elevated into the IEEE class of Fellows for 2025. Earlier in the year, Brian Telfer, also from the Biotechnology and Human Systems Division, was appointed as a distinguished lecturer of the IEEE/Engineering Medicine and Biology Society.
"It was an incredibly proud moment to see our staff members recognized among the award winners and honorees at the IEEE Boston Section's premiere awards event,” says Joseph Campbell, a Fellow from the Cyber Security and Information Science Division. "These awards honor their unwavering dedication to advancing technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity. They also represent our efforts to increase Laboratory recognition in professional societies."
The Laboratory has a long history of contributing to the fields of electrical and electronics engineering. Last year, leaders from the IEEE visited the Laboratory to dedicate three historical Laboratory technologies as IEEE Milestones.
