What does your job entail, and what are you currently working on?
As a member of the superconducting qubit measurement team, I often can be found wiring up superconducting qubit devices, operating a dilution refrigerator, and performing measurements and experiments on said devices, specifically testbed arrays of qubits.
How has your career evolved during your time here?
Having come from a different field of physics research prior to the Laboratory, I spent my first few months getting familiar with the types of measurements done in a superconducting qubit lab. Having now been here for nearly two years, I spend my time using these measurements to probe areas where we could improve our control over the qubit devices, and sharing what I learn with the rest of the team so that they can implement these improvements.
Why do you think the Laboratory is a good fit for you?
The Laboratory grants the opportunity to do cutting-edge scientific research with experts in the field, while also encouraging a very healthy work–life balance and being a collaborative and welcoming community. As an early-career scientist, I have found that the Laboratory's environment has allowed me to grow and flourish as I develop my research skills.
Are you involved with any Laboratory employee resource groups or professional activities?
Being a part of the Circle Mentoring program during my first year allowed me to connect with other new employees throughout the Laboratory. I enjoyed hearing others' experiences and tips for onboarding, and learning about what they did day-to-day — everyone's days are so different across the Laboratory!
Tell us about your favorite activities or interests outside of work.
I love picking up new hobbies! I took a woodcarving class over the winter and recently started taking drum lessons. I also enjoy reading, trying out new coffee shops with friends, and printmaking.
From day to day, where do you find inspiration?
In my daily life, I find inspiration and motivation from my friends! Seeing them build their careers and take the steps they need to work toward their goals is truly inspiring. It looks different for everyone, and seeing how it has played out for each of my friends gives me motivation to work toward my goals every day.
