What does your job entail, and what are you currently working on?
My role involves designing, prototyping, and testing radio frequency (RF) microwave assemblies and systems, automating testing setups, designing printed circuit boards, conducting data analysis, and performing radar panel testing in anechoic (echo-free) chambers.
What led you to a career at Lincoln Laboratory?
I have always been passionate about electronics. As a teenager, I worked in my uncle’s electronics shop repairing equipment. My time in the military further deepened my interest, as I worked with communication systems and antennas. When searching for a career, I envisioned a role that combined my passion for electronics and my desire to contribute to national security. The Laboratory — and the Integrated RF and Photonics Group specifically — offered me the perfect opportunity to unify these interests. Here, I work on advanced technologies alongside a motivated and talented team, contributing to impactful projects with real-world significance. My younger self would be proud to see me living out this career dream.
What inspires your passion for your work?
During my senior year of college, I developed a passion for RF and microwave engineering as well as radar technology. The ability to interpret data from electromagnetic waves reflecting off distant objects continues to fascinate me. I take immense pride in fulfilling my dream of working in this field and contributing to groundbreaking advancements. I am honored to collaborate with some of the most accomplished professionals in the industry. Knowing that my work pushes boundaries and aids in developing technologies that enhance national security is profoundly rewarding. This sense of purpose and the cutting-edge research we undertake at the Laboratory make me incredibly proud.
Where did you grow up?
I am originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Growing up there meant experiencing a vibrant, diverse culture, rich in music, natural beauty, and community spirit. However, it also exposed me to stark social contrasts, including the challenges of poverty and violence. Despite these difficulties, my childhood was filled with joy, music, and cherished family moments.
What do you consider to be your greatest accomplishment?
One of my greatest accomplishments is working at the Laboratory — a role that represents the culmination of years of hard work and determination. Reflecting on my journey, I am proud of learning English on my own, building a business that funded my education, and ultimately achieving my dream career. I am especially grateful for my wife, who has been my greatest supporter, and for the opportunity to raise two wonderful children with her.
