Dan Hogan

What does your job entail?
I design, build, test, and field real-time software and systems for programs related to sensors, aircraft, communication, and navigation. I also support various modeling and simulation programs to explore novel concepts, capabilities, and technologies in radar, electronic warfare, and missile defense systems.
How has your career evolved at the Laboratory?
I joined the Laboratory in 2012 as a subcontractor in the Advanced Concepts and Technologies Group. From my first day, I was impressed with the willingness of staff to share their knowledge and expertise. The collaborative environment at the Laboratory fosters an incredible culture of learning and professional growth unlike any I have previously experienced. Since becoming a full-time staff member, I have made a concerted effort to support this collaborative environment by actively sharing my knowledge and experiences with other team members.
Why is the Laboratory a good fit for you?
I enjoy the technical challenge of the work we do and the freedom we are given in solving problems. The most rewarding part has been seeing how solutions developed at the Laboratory have helped our nation, such as the WWII–era SCR-584 radar.
Where are you originally from?
I am originally from Saranac Lake, New York, a beautiful area within Adirondack Park. Growing up there, I appreciated experiencing the different seasons, the laid-back atmosphere of the town, and one of the oldest winter carnivals in the country.
What activities do you engage in outside of work?
I enjoy spending time with my family, being outdoors, cooking, boating, and traveling. As a child, I traveled through much of the United States, Canada, and Ireland. I continue to travel across the United States, and recently visited Baja California, Mexico. In the future, I'd like to visit Europe, Australia, Africa, and Tahiti.
