Raul Harnasch

Raul Harnasch is an assistant leader in the Artificial Intelligence Technology and Systems Group at MIT Lincoln Laboratory. His work involves applied artificial intelligence in national and cyber security contexts, developing and operationalizing machine learning technologies in areas such as counter influence operations, cyber threat intelligence analysis, and network traffic characterization.

Prior to joining Lincoln Laboratory in 2013, Harnasch worked for the Department of the Navy both in and out of uniform. His government service includes working as a Cyber Support Element (CSE) and U.S. Cyber Command liaison to the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command for defensive cyberspace operations, where he was awarded the Joint Civilian Service Achievement Award for his efforts to baseline and characterize cybersecurity incident handling in the Pacific theater; Branch Chief of Cyber Analysis and Reporting at Navy Information Operations Center (NIOC) Hawaii supporting the U.S. Pacific Fleet; and afloat cryptologist performing intelligence collection and processing on deployments throughout the Pacific and Middle East.

Harnasch received his BS degree in computer science from the University of Massachusetts Lowell in 2019 with a focus on data mining and machine learning.
