Derek W. Jones serves as the Laboratory's Acting Chief Security Officer. He is responsible for security management oversight, guidance and direction for all facets of the Laboratory's industrial security program, and special program activities to meet government and contractual security requirements. He joined the Laboratory in 2003 and has served in a variety of roles, including personnel security, business operations, and industrial security management. He also served as an assistant department head and deputy chief security officer. Prior to joining the Laboratory, Jones was a police officer in Maine.

Jones has a long and proven track record of providing critical support to Lincoln Laboratory's high-performing security operation, which has been nationally recognized by the Department of Defense. This program is dynamic and complex, requiring critical skills in leadership, influence, and project execution. He has received numerous awards for his participation or leadership in efficiency improvements and large-scale infrastructure projects. Jones currently serves on the National Industrial Security Program Policy Advisory Committee (NISPPAC), chairs the NISPPAC Policy Working Group, and co-chairs the FFRDC/UARC Policy and Operations Working Group.

Jones received his BS degree in criminal justice from Westfield State University and his MA degree in criminal justice from the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Jones is also a graduate of MIT's Leader-to-Leader program.
