Jared Monnin

Jared Monnin is an assistant leader of the Advanced Undersea Systems and Technology Group at MIT Lincoln Laboratory. In this role, he leads a wide range of research and development efforts that include modeling, simulation, prototyping, and field testing of advanced submarine technologies, communications system architectures, and novel cross-domain capabilities.

Monnin joined the Laboratory in 2017 as an associate staff member in the group. Soon after integrating into the undersea studies program team, he was selected to be the deputy program manager. In 2020, he was promoted to technical staff, continuing to lead this program as it grew in size and scope. He oversaw several large-scale, multi-organization field tests as part of a campaign involving teams of personnel located across the globe. These efforts resulted in the rapid development of improved operational guidance for the U.S. Navy Submarine Force. In addition to his leadership of the group’s undersea studies portfolio, Monnin applied his undersea expertise to many programs across the Laboratory, including in the radar, cyber, and communications realms.

Monnin received an MEng degree in electrical engineering and computer science and a BS degree in electrical engineering, both from MIT. As a graduate of the MIT Naval ROTC program, he served six years in the U.S. Navy as a nuclear submarine officer, including two deployments aboard the USS Pittsburgh (SSN 720), before departing the Navy in 2017. Monnin remains active within the local military and veteran communities, participating in the Laboratory’s employee resource group for veterans, hosting Navy midshipman summer interns at the Laboratory, and advising active-duty personnel studying in the Boston area.
